Examination And Promotion Rules  

Examination Policy

DAV Public Schools follow a two-term system (April–Sept, Oct–March) featuring periodic tests, subject enrichment, notebook maintenance, and term-end exams (80 marks) based on DAV CAE and CBSE guidelines. A minimum of 33% per subject is required for promotion, with 75% attendance mandatory, alongside strict no-cheat policies

Here are the key details of the DAV Public School examination policy:

1. Structure & Assessment (Classes III–XII)

  • Terms: The session is divided into two terms, each with periodic assessments and a major term-end exam.
  • Components: Marks include Periodic Tests (PT), Subject Enrichment Activities, Notebook Maintenance, and Terminal Exams.
  • Nursery–II: Generally focuses on observation-based assessment per EEDP guidelines (No Pen-Paper test).
  • Classes IX–XII: Follows CBSE guidelines, including internal assessments (20 marks) and board exams for X/XII. 

2. Examination Rules & Policies

  • Attendance: 75% attendance is compulsory to sit for exams.
  • Passing Criteria: Generally, a minimum of 33% marks in each subject (theory and practical separately) is required.
  • Absences: No re-exams are conducted; absence usually results in zero.
  • Unfair Means: Cheating leads to zero marks, possible expulsion, or debarring from further exams.
  • Dues: Non-payment of school fees may disqualify students from appearing in exams. 

3. Key Regulations

  • Report Cards: Only final report card will be distributed after annual exam.
  • Class Nursery to IV- All students will bepromoted to next class.
  • Class V to VII- If a student does not secure 33% marks in any subject then s/he will be declared as failed and given one chance for compartment exam in that subject.
  • Class VIII/XI: Specific compartment rules apply if failing in one or more subjects, as per DAVCAE guidelines.
  • Medical Cases: Sick leave requires a medical certificate from a qualified practitioner.

Evaluation Policy

EVALUATION FOR NURSERY - UKG
There are no written tests for Nursery to UKG classes. Children are assessed on the basis of their class performance which covers reading, speaking, interpersonal skills, team spirit and participation in class activities.

FOR CLASSES I - II
The year is divided into 3 terms for 3 assessments.

FOR CLASSES III - IV
Three unit exams and two term exams are conducted and the final result is based on best two unit exams and both term exams.

FOR CLASS V
Three unit exams and two term exams are conducted and the final result is based on best two unit exams and both term exams.

FOR CLASSES VI – VIII
The year is divided into 2 terms: Term I from April to September and Term II from October to March. The exams are conducted in the form of two terms. Exams for class VIII are conducted by DAV Centre for Academic Excellence, New Delhi. Students are assessed on the basis of their performance in the following activities.
(a)Periodic Tests

(b)Subject Enrichment Activities.

(c)Practicals

(d) Note book completion

FOR CLASSES IX and X
Annual Examinations are conducted at the end of session covering the complete syllabus. Students have to secure at least 33% marks in each subject.
Periodic Assessment of students:

  • Written Test carries 10 marks for each subject.
  • Note book submission carries 5 marks for each subject.
  • Subject Enrichment Activities carry 5 marks for each subject.

FOR CLASSES XI and XII
The final exam of class XI is conducted under the DAV Centre for Academic Excellence, New Delhi.
The final exam of class XII is conducted by CBSE.
Overall Pass Percentage for both XI and XII is 33% marks. In case of Practical subjects, the student needs to clear both Theory and Practical exams separately with 33% marks in each.
In class XI, a student failing in one subject is considered as a compartment case and failing in two subjects is considered Fail.

Please Note:
Attendance in all the examinations and tests is compulsory..

  • If a student is found using unfair means during any exam, he/she is liable to be expelled from the school.
  • Defaulters on account of non-payment of school dues will not be allowed to appear in the examinations.
  • Attendance on all working days is compulsory. Absentees will be fined as per school norms.
  • No re-examination will be conducted in any subject in any case.
